“Melos Erotiko” presents songs for Eros, with lyrics derived from poems written 20-28 centuries ago by:

Alkman, Anakreon, Archilochus, Ibycus, Sappho, Plato & Rufinus. Also choral odes by Sophocles and Euripides

This is a work by Konstantinos Martinides and Michalis Michaleris created for artistic than academic purposes. There are already several translations of ancient lyrical poetry, (see “Links”). “Melos Erotiko” is inspired by the power, tenderness and boldness of these poems. With respect to the ancient text, it attempts to render them lyrically (in contemporary Greek) and set them to music, hoping to convey in an accessible way, some of their grace and immediacy to the present day.
